Therapists for college students near Nashville, TN
Hi, I’m Amanda. I work with individuals and couples who want to get to the root of their patterns—whether it’s relational conflict, trauma symptoms, anxiety, or a sense that something deeper is in the way of fully living. Many of my clients are high-functioning on the outside but exhausted internally. Others feel flooded, shut down, or stuck in dynamics they can’t quite name. I help you slow down and listen to the wisdom of your nervous system, so we can understand how past experiences may still be living in your body—and gently unwind them. My approach integrates EMDR, somatic therapy, parts work (IFS-informed), and body-based listening tools like the Safe and Sound or Rest and Restore Protocol. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for those seeking an altered state of consciousness to process trauma or reconnect with meaning. When working with couples, I draw from Relational Life Therapy to help partners move beyond blame and disconnection and into clarity, ownership, and renewed connection. I also offer Discernment Counseling which is a short term focused therapy for couples unsure whether to stay or separate—with compassion for both perspectives. Outside the therapy room, I spend as much time as I can outdoors—going on “bug hunts” with my son, hiking local trails with my husband, or exploring a new interest in horseback riding. I also love yoga, travel, and quiet mornings with coffee and books. If you’re ready to get curious about what your symptoms are trying to say—and want to feel more connected to yourself and your relationships—I’d be honored to support your journey.
Do you struggle with anxiety or feeling disconnected from yourself? Do you hope that life could feel more connected, fulfilling, and aligned with who you are? Do you want to explore and express parts of yourself that are hidden or suppressed? I believe therapy is a sacred process- one that offers you a safe, supportive place to explore your inner/outer experiences & reconnect with your authentic self. I believe that healing shouldn’t feel so out of reach—that change is possible, and that you are worthy of feeling whole. I offer individualized, trauma-informed counseling for those who are ready to go deeper in their healing. My approach is eclectic & integrative, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities to meet your unique needs with compassion, acceptance, & support. I aim to create a safe, compassionate space where you can show up exactly as you are. I help you build insight into patterns, develop practical tools, and gently process life experiences. Above all, I hope our work leads to meaningful breakthroughs & small victories—each one a step forward on your path to healing & wholeness. During our sessions together, I will support you in exploring the many parts of you and how they came to be. I will work with you to identify the negative messages connected to these parts of you. We will form a relationship with these parts and create a safe place for all of you to be seen, heard, and understood. In this safe place, you will heal yourself. Developing my own internal resources has helped me to move through some very difficult times as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Using evidence based research, I provide care that values every part of you and respects where you came from. In those moments of pain and struggle and self-discovery, I will help you to choose yourself. I seek to create a safe and inclusive space for black-bodied individuals, first generation immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, survivors of trauma, sex workers, and clients who are struggling with relationship and intimacy issues. My approach to mental health care is rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonizing frameworks. The treatment modalities that I use have been found to be effective across many cultures, ages, genders, and experiences. I am here to support my clients in rediscovering themselves, strengthening their mind-body connection, and living the life they have always wanted.
As no two individuals are the same, I tailor my work with each client to address the challenges unique to you. As Ward Foley has stated, "We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life. It is up to us to make it good or bad." I am glad that you found this platform and have taken the courageous first step of being here! When working with clients, I focus on their strengths and their ability to create lasting change for themselves. My approach to therapy is holistic, factoring the mind, body, and spirit into wellness to help empower you. I utilize CBT, mindfulness, and strengths based approaches and provide compassion, healing honesty, and support throughout our time together. I began my career working in both inpatient as well as outpatient settings. I completed my Master's in Social Work at the University of South Carolina. I have worked with a wide range of populations facing a wide range of issues for over seven years- from hospice to trauma, crisis and substance abuse counseling in an inpatient setting, to most recently in the past two years practicing individual counseling in a purely outpatient setting. I am skilled in crisis management and trauma focused CBT having worked in an inpatient mental health setting for three years. I am very comfortable working with anyone from 18 years and up, LGBTQ friendly. I specialize in emotional and physical regulation to help manage difficult situations, depression, anxiety, grief/loss/bereavement, prior trauma/ re-experiencing of traumatic events, geriatric focused counseling, life transitions, and general stress. I am ready to help you find ways to navigate through major life changes, depression, anxiety, isolation, relationship stress, addiction, prior trauma, and many other factors that may be keeping you from thriving. You don't have to be alone on this journey. I will help equip you with new tools that will service you for years to come into being your best self and help you find solutions you already have within you but haven't been able to access. Whether you are looking for long term therapy to sort out past hurts, or short term therapy to see your way out of a difficult situation, I look forward to supporting you to reach your goals. Let's work together to understand the root of your struggles and address issues with long-lasting strategies to help you work towards the life you have always wanted!
Are you feeling anxious! I can give you a good understanding of neuroscience, how your brain works, and techniques so that you can better manage your anxiety. I enjoy helping college students gain a better understanding of how thoughts and experiences influence emotions and so I will provide you with practical feedback on your own thoughts/emotions to guide you in reaching your goals. I offer therapy with or without a Christian perspective. Your choice. No judgement from me, only support and encouragement to help you manage your difficulties.
I have been crossing lines of different cultures and expectations for my whole life, and helping others to do so too. My best work is with helping people manage borderline symptoms, depression/anxiety, "oppositional-defiant" behavior, and/or ADHD. I care a lot about strong foundations in the original ideas of the different treatment modalities I use, like CBT, ACT, or DBT (the original "lore," if you will). At the same time, I'm always looking for connections to the various stories and narratives my clients find meaningful in your own everyday lives, whether it's from anime, the Bible, historical figures, or any mix.

A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.
